Vuota – Eroguro Neurosis

Standard

A new project from the mind behind the fantastic Ripple’Field (posted here), that moves away from shining synthpop to a much darker sound. Vouta focuses on black metal, post-punk and goth rock to create something that transcends each of these genres. This is while managing to move flawlessly between rich melodies and raging, violent power. The tracks Short Breaths and Hanged are perhaps the best example of this polarity. The use of clean vocals will no doubt pull in those who are put off by the black metal tagging, but there is enough brute force and muffled screaming here to interest even the most kvlt of music fans.

Vooram – Vooram

Standard

Delving into the heavier side of music today with the blogs first metal related post. This atmospheric black metal album has a wide range of influences which are evident throughout the tracklist. Like all good atmospheric BM, Vooram manages to combine brutal blast beats and vocals with ambient soundscapes that mesmerise the listener.

As with most music, this album benefits from listening through headphones. The subtle background effects really complete this release, and make a closer listen all the more rewarding. The best example of this is perhaps the song A Portrait of Scattering Dust and Ash In The Air.
