Red Alder – Dissociation

Standard

Red Alder is a female solo artist who makes wonderfully atmospheric lo-fi pop. As the name suggests, the songs on Dissociation are cold, withdrawn and sombre. However, these seven tracks showcase some of the most beautiful and poignant female led pop I’ve heard for quite some time. Through the use of keyboard, percussion, effects and field recordings, Red Alder puts forward music that is both playful and melancholy. Highly recommended.

Vacation – Locust Lane

Standard

Lo-fi folk pop release which is somewhat reminiscent of the brilliant freak folk group Woods (although slightly more accessible). Raw and unique vocals with poignant lyrics, set over a range of acoustic and electronic backing. The vocals can take some getting used to, but they’re often heartfelt and moving. All in all some really interesting and quirky stuff
